Impossible crystals are 'from space'

Examples of a crystal previously thought to be impossible in nature may have come from space, a study shows. Quasicrystals have an unusual structure - in between those of crystals and glasses.

Until two years ago, quasicrystals had only been created in the lab - then geologists found them in rocks from Russia's Koryak mountains. In PNAS journal, a team says the chemistry of the Russian crystals suggests they arrived in meteorites. Quasicrystals were first described in the 1980s by Israeli researcher Daniel Schechtman, who was awarded last year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery.

Comment:
I think it is important to note that scientists and people generally are too parochial. It's a massive universe out there and evolutionary change means increasing complexity on timescales of billions of years, that might have occured even before there was anything that could be called Earth. The narrow mindedness has got to stop, people need to evolve in their thinking processes...

The Wisdom Of Trees (Leonardo Da Vinci Knew It)

Hurricanes topple plenty of trees, but when you think about it, the more amazing thing is that many trees can stand up to these 100-mile-per-hour winds.

Now a French scientist has come up with an explanation for the resilience of trees. And astonishingly, the answer was first described by Leonardo da Vinci 500 years ago.

Leonardo noticed that when trees branch, smaller branches have a precise, mathematical relationship to the branch from which they sprang. Many people have verified Leonardo's rule, as it's known, but no one had a good explanation for it.

French physicist Christophe Eloy wasn't particularly interested in trees, but he does specialize in understanding how air flows around objects — objects like airplane wings and such. So he decided to see whether he could solve the mystery of the branching trees.

Comment:
Yes, it's incredible to think that there are a few people who can be 500 years ahead of everybody else but most are too uneducated to recognise the wisdom/intelligence. In the scientific world, it is quite normal to find people who are 20, 30, 40, 80+ years of their peers. Space Weather has been escalating for 20 years but most are oblivious. In 2004, I thought I was late to the party, when I found out our whole world is being engulfed in matter and energy with properties where we have no idea how it will affect the world. At least I am pleased to find out that world controllers have been quietly trying to figure out what we should expect as there have been plasma experiments taking place on the International Space Station for 10 years. Whatever, I am just grateful that I can think for myself and I can ignore the ignoranti and those being deceptive.

Scientists excited over hints of finding an elusive particle

All the fuss is over an elusive subatomic particle called the Higgs boson, which is key to understanding mass in the universe. No one has ever presented proof of its existence, but that may be about to change.

"There will be people who will see years of work and things for which they got tenure consigned to the dustbin of history," said MIT theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek, who believes that the that particle's days of anonymity are numbered.

Quite an amusing article by PhysOrg.com standards... Well, I have learnt something, The "God particle" is short for the "Goddamn Particle," and that makes a lot more sense... I am actually wondering if we will get anymore YouTube videos of scientists "rapping" to celebrate the discovery of this particle...

'UFOs' Disrupting Search for 'God Particle'

Physicists working at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator at CERN Laboratory in Switzerland, are trying to slam particles together hard enough to break them into never-before-seen pieces, which could solve some of the biggest puzzles in nature.

But UFOs — unidentified falling objects, that is — keep getting in their way. [...]

However, since last year, something has been fluttering in the way of the proton beams and dampening the force of their blows, the physicists say. These "UFOs" aren't from outer space — they're probably microscopic dust particles of unknown origin — but they're still mysterious, and while they're around, the prize goodies will likely remain stashed.

UFOs are "one of the major known limitations for the performance of the Large Hadron Collider," wrote Tobias Baer, a physicist working at the LHC, and colleagues in a paper for the recent IPAC2011 conference in San Sebastián, Spain. The researchers have spent the past few months trying to characterize the UFOs, and are devising strategies to get rid of them.

More than 10,000 possible UFO events — occasions when there were proton-beam losses thought to result from UFOs blocking the protons — were observed between April and August, some so significant that they triggered "beam dumps," where the beam automatically shut down. Many of these events occurred in the electric arc that produces the beam of protons, the researchers wrote. Because the events became more frequent as the intensity of the proton beam increased, they "are expected to be very critical for LHC operation at higher energies."

Comment:
How funny.... I think I should make a bet that the 'nuisance' becomes recognised as some Earth shattering new discovery at some point in the future... related to a breakthrough that some solitary scientist has been trying to tell the world about for a good 20, 30 or 40+ years... Yes, I am cynical, but this is how the scientific world works.

Quantum theorem shakes foundations
The wavefunction is a real physical object after all, say researchers.

Action at a distance occurs when pairs of quantum particles interact in such a way that they become entangled. But the new paper, by a trio of physicists led by Matthew Pusey at Imperial College London, presents a theorem showing that if a quantum wavefunction were purely a statistical tool, then even quantum states that are unconnected across space and time would be able to communicate with each other. As that seems very unlikely to be true, [????? ] the researchers conclude that the wavefunction must be physically real after all.

Comment:
I don't have time to check the implications, but the comments here are interesting. I am hoping this development might stop people misusing quantum mechanics to sell magical thinking and making it look like it's the smart thing to do by those who can only be described as pretentious.

Measuring Billions of Elusive Neutrinos Flowing Through the Earth, UMass Amherst Physicists Learn More about the Sun

AMHERST, Mass. - Using one of the most sensitive neutrino detectors on the planet, an international team including physicists Laura Cadonati and Andrea Pocar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst are now measuring the flow of solar neutrinos reaching earth more precisely than ever before. The detector probes matter at the most fundamental level and provides a powerful tool for directly observing the sun’s composition.

Pocar, Cadonati and colleagues report in the current issue of Physical Review Letters that the Borexino instrument has now measured with high precision the flux of the beryllium seven (7Be) solar neutrino, abundant, low-energy particles once below the observable threshold. With this advance, they can now precisely study the behavior of solar neutrinos with kinetic energy below 1 megaelectron volt (MeV). Borexino scientists also recently reported the first observation of neutrinos produced in a little-studied solar nuclear process known as proton-electron-proton, or pep, and set of stringent limit on reactions involving carbon, nitrogen and oxygen (the CNO cycle) in the sun.

Cadonati says, "Borexino is the only detector capable of observing the entire spectrum of solar neutrinos at once. Our results, the culmination of 20 years of research, greatly narrow the observation precision. The data confirm the neutrino oscillations, flavor changes and flow predicted by models of the sun and particle physics."

Comment:
Now this is interesting, these particles were once invisible but now they are at least observable using new techniques. In the old days, if something was invisible it meant it did not exist... So, we seem to have come a long way, but these particles are not considered "dark matter", so what are they? Please note, these are "physical" particles flowing through Earth that are "invisible" to standard methods of detection... Well, I think these neutrinos are some of the particles that the metaphysical community have always claimed exist and because some people have a wider range of vision than others and their brains literally process input data differently, they are certainly not invisible to them. I am quite convinced of this because on occasions, I have 'seen' these energies myself...

Ridiculed crystal work wins Nobel for Israeli

(Reuters) - An Israeli scientist who suffered years of ridicule and even lost a research post for claiming to have found an entirely new class of solid material was awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry on Wednesday for his discovery of quasicrystals.

Three decades after Daniel Shechtman looked with an electron microscope at a metal alloy and saw a pattern familiar in Islamic art but then unknown at a molecular level, those non-stick, rust-free, heat-resistant quasicrystals are finding their way into tools from LEDs to engines and frying pans.

Comment:
Hmmm... It looks like we have another victory for a truth seeker... This scenario is repeated over and over again in science. It's a pattern that I recognised in my research and I decided to use this as a guide when searching for truth because those scientists that refused to conform and were being threatened, had a conviction with integrity that made them refuse to cooperate with the mediocre... The moral of the tale is that it is not very wise to just believe scientists who are happy with the current paradigm, without some basic understanding of what those with alternative opinions have to say. A surprisingly thoughtful commentary on consensus in Nature of all places. Even more surprising, it’s not paywalled.

The very idea that science best expresses its authority through consensus statements is at odds with a vibrant scientific enterprise. Consensus is for textbooks; real science depends for its progress on continual challenges to the current state of always-imperfect knowledge. Science would provide better value to politics if it articulated the broadest set of plausible interpretations, options and perspectives, imagined by the best experts, rather than forcing convergence to an allegedly unified voice.

JERUSALEM (AP) — When Israeli scientist Dan Shechtman claimed to have stumbled upon a new crystalline chemical structure that seemed to violate the laws of nature, colleagues mocked him, insulted him and exiled him from his research group.

After years in the scientific wilderness, though, he was proved right. And on Wednesday, he received the ultimate vindication: the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

This is a very nice interview by Professor Dan Shechtman, where he talks about his discovery and his treatment by other scientists. This is a good quote: "the community of non-believers was very large...." Yes, as we see here, it does not mean those who refuse to see reality exactly as it is, should be relied on.... Finally, we have some wonderful words of wisdom, but you will have to watch this interview to hear what he has to say.

Roll over Einstein: Law of physics challenged (Update 2)

One of the very pillars of physics and Einstein's theory of relativity - that nothing can go faster than the speed of light - was rocked Thursday by new findings from one of the world's foremost laboratories.

European researchers said they clocked an oddball type of subatomic particle called a neutrino going faster than the 186,282 miles per second that has long been considered the cosmic speed limit.

The claim was met with skepticism, with one outside physicist calling it the equivalent of saying you have a flying carpet. In fact, the researchers themselves are not ready to proclaim a discovery and are asking other physicists to independently try to verify their findings.

"The feeling that most people have is this can't be right, this can't be real," said James Gillies, a spokesman for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, which provided the particle accelerator that sent neutrinos on their breakneck 454-mile trip underground from Geneva to Italy.

Going faster than light is something that is just not supposed to happen according to Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity - the one made famous by the equation E equals mc2. But no one is rushing out to rewrite the science books just yet.

Comment:
I wrote an whole article on this based on the work of Prof. Emeritus William Tiller and his Tiller-Einstein Model of Positive-Negative Spacetime. Here is a quote:
Tiller refers to matter described by the curve to the left of c, (at velocities less than the speed of light) as the world of Positive Space/Time (+S/T) and the world of Negative Space/Time (-S/T) where energy is magnetoelectric and negativity entropic, and substance is of a subtle magnetic character. Negative is the dimension of the etheric world of energies which includes the human etheric body. The substance which makes up our etheric bodies vibrates at speeds faster than light making it difficult to directly measure with convention electromagnetic sensing equipment. It is theorized that the astral world also exists within the negative space/time dimension at vibratory speeds exceeding those of the etheric. [...]

A number of physicists have proposed the existence of a particle known as a "tachyon", which would theoretically exist only at speeds exceeding that of light velocity2. The properties of such unusal particles at faster than light velocity are quite interesting. Unlike Positive Space/Time matter which is associated with forces of electricity and electromagnetic (EM) radiation. -ve Negative Space/Time is associated primarily with magnetism and a force which Tiller describes as magnetoelectric (ME) radiation. Electromagnetic theory predicts that magnetic monopoles- particles magnetically charged either North or South should exist in nature. No one has yet successfully captured or repeatedly detected magnetic monopoles. It is possible that if a domain of this particle is in tachyonic realms like those in Tiller's negative space/time model, then our present measuring equipment may be inadequate(or insensitive) for the task.

New Stealth Tech Lets Tanks Blend Into the Infrared Background

Giant pixels pasted onto tanks can now sense the general pattern of infrared energy, or heat, distributed around a bucolic mountain meadow or windy desert and camouflage the vehicle accordingly, so heat-spying eyes will be none the wiser.

Such adaptive cloaking has been on the wishlist of world governments for decades, but most attempts so far have been limited by cost and technical problems, like not being able to change the cloak fast enough to be convincing on a moving vehicle or failing to stand up to enemy fire. There aren’t a lot of details available about this implementation, called Adaptiv and developed by BAE Systems in part for the Swedish government, but a press release from the company says that not only can the pixels adapt quickly, they use relatively little energy and can serve as armor as well.

Comment:
So, the billion dollar question is: are these adaptive cloaking 'tiles' just picking up ambient energy in the air that registers in the infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum? Funnily enough, plasma entities do exactly the same thing to create a cloak of plasma before they fly off into space, it is necessary because space is highly radioactive.... Of course, these entities can switch off and go invisible too...

Unexpected Clue to Thermopower Efficiency: Uneven Temperature Can Lead to Electronic Whirlpools and Sideways Magnetic Fields

Berkeley Lab scientists and their colleagues have discovered a new relation among electric and magnetic fields and differences in temperature, which may lead to more efficient thermoelectric devices that convert heat into electricity or electricity into heat.

"In the search for new sources of energy, thermopower -- the ability to convert temperature differences directly into electricity without wasteful intervening steps -- is tremendously promising," says Junqiao Wu of Berkeley Lab's Materials Sciences Division (MSD), who led the research team

Comment:
Presumably, this would also explain the occurrence of tornadoes, waterspouts, fire tornadoes and maybe even hurricanes, because atmospheric temperature differences and Earth's vertical electric field are combined with air that has become ionised enough to become a semi-conducting plasma and these are all the ingredients to create the same vortexes and "whirlpools of electric current" but on a much larger scale.

Tests 'reject new particle claim'

Cross-checks on data that hinted at the discovery of a new sub-atomic particle have failed to find support for the observation.

In May, researchers working on the CDF experiment at the US Tevatron "atom smasher" announced they had detected tantalising hints of an unanticipated particle. But independent checks using a separate experiment called DZero have not been able to corroborate the findings - dealing a blow to the idea. [...]

US Department of Energy budget cuts are forcing the Tevatron to shut in September this year; by the time the machine accelerates its last particles, it will have been operating for some 28 years.

Comment:
I remember being rather cynical that scientist associated with the US Tevatron had found a new particle and I believed it was a desperate attempt by scientist to keep their research funding and jobs. Looks like I was right.

NASA Announces Results of Epic Space-Time Experiment

Einstein was right again. There is a space-time vortex around Earth, and its shape precisely matches the predictions of Einstein's theory of gravity. Researchers confirmed these points at a press conference today at NASA headquarters where they announced the long-awaited results of Gravity Probe B (GP-B).

"The space-time around Earth appears to be distorted just as general relativity predicts," says Stanford University physicist Francis Everitt, principal investigator of the Gravity Probe B mission.

They developed a "drag free" satellite that could brush against the outer layers of Earth's atmosphere without disturbing the gyros. They figured out how to keep Earth's magnetic field from penetrating the spacecraft. And they created a device to measure the spin of a gyro--without touching the gyro. More information about these technologies may be found in the Science@NASA story "A Pocket of Near-Perfection."

NASA funding for Gravity Probe B began in the fall of 1963. That means Everitt and some colleagues have been planning, promoting, building, operating, and analyzing data from the experiment for more than 47 years—truly, an epic effort.

"Well," says Everitt, "we invented 13 new technologies for Gravity Probe B. Who knows where they will take us?"

Comment:
Let's hope that our modern world can reap the benefit from the 13 new technologies created after 47 years of effort. I would have thought there would be major interest in the drag-free satellites due to issues associated with space weather.

Solar power without solar cells: A hidden magnetic effect of light could make it possible

(PhysOrg.com) -- A dramatic and surprising magnetic effect of light discovered by University of Michigan researchers could lead to solar power without traditional semiconductor-based solar cells.

The researchers found a way to make an “optical battery,” said Stephen Rand, a professor in the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Physics and Applied Physics.

In the process, they overturned a century-old tenet of physics.

“You could stare at the equations of motion all day and you will not see this possibility. We’ve all been taught that this doesn’t happen,” said Rand, an author of a paper on the work published in the Journal of Applied Physics. “It’s a very odd interaction. That’s why it’s been overlooked for more than 100 years.”

Light has electric and magnetic components. Until now, scientists thought the effects of the magnetic field were so weak that they could be ignored. What Rand and his colleagues found is that at the right intensity, when light is traveling through a material that does not conduct electricity, the light field can generate magnetic effects that are 100 million times stronger than previously expected. Under these circumstances, the magnetic effects develop strength equivalent to a strong electric effect.

Comment:
Well, people have to realise that the education system is designed to keep thinking only along certain 'allowed' tracks. Hence, the development of our world has been held back by people unwilling to break from their mental straightjacket. However, saying that, I believe that those who actually want to progress, are being mentally re-wired right now... Anyway, I am sure there are spiritual connotations to all this, but I have to find some time to deeply think about this discovery...

DARPA gets behind bid to put flame-quelling electric wands in the hands of firefighters

Last week, team leader Ludovico Cademartiri showed the 241st National Meeting and Exposition of the American Chemical Society how electricity could bend, twist, turn and flicker flame. And yes, it can even snuff it out.

Dr Cademartiri proved it for the society by shooting a beam of electricity from a "wand" at 30cm-high flames. Almost instantly, it was snuffed out, time and time again. The wand was channelling about the same amount of power as a high-end car stereo system, which Dr Cademartiri said was about 10 times more than he thought was necessary.

That means a similar device could be carried in a backpack - in other words, future firefighters could all be carrying portable, fire-quelling magic wands. "Our research has shown that by applying large electric fields we can suppress flames very rapidly," he said.

Comment:
I suppose this concept has never been developed because the electromagnetic nature of our reality has been heavily downplayed and many useful inventions have been suppressed in preference to more traditional methods and remedies

The Fate of the Kilo Weighs Heavily on the Minds of Metrologists

Dr. Phillips and other mandarins of metrology were gathered at Britain's Royal Society to debate an urgent question in the science of measurement—how to re-define the basic unit of mass, as well as other measurements such as the second, ampere, kelvin and mole.

The aim is to tie each to a widely accepted property of nature, rather than to a lump of metal or some other imprecise benchmark. The meter, for instance, was once measured as the distance between two notches on a metal bar. It is now defined as the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second.

The new definitions are "as big a change as the introduction of the metric system during the French Revolution," says Terry Quinn, a dapper Briton who organized the seminar and once served as director of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, which ensures world-wide uniformity of measurements. Frequent clashes about the best approach mean the temperature of debate has at times "risen quite high," he added, without specifying by how much.

Comment:
To be honest, I did not want to report again about these scientists moaning about being fed up with the kilo shrinking, but I could not resist the complaint that it was effecting "everything else in the universe!" Really? Was this an exaggeration of some who is closed to a greater reality in a vast universe of at least 300 sextillion (3 x 10 23) stars. Anyway, a major constant changing seems to be quite common these days, as scientists are now starting to face up to the fact that radiation decay rates vary in a predictable way over the year and experimental error and environmental conditions have all been ruled out.

Study: Many college students not learning to think critically

NEW YORK — An unprecedented study that followed several thousand undergraduates through four years of college found that large numbers didn't learn the critical thinking, complex reasoning and written communication skills that are widely assumed to be at the core of a college education.

Many of the students graduated without knowing how to sift fact from opinion, make a clear written argument or objectively review conflicting reports of a situation or event, according to New York University sociologist Richard Arum, lead author of the study. The students, for example, couldn't determine the cause of an increase in neighborhood crime or how best to respond without being swayed by emotional testimony and political spin. [...]

Comment:
This is a good read. It seems strange that someone even bothered to do the survey, as the academic world often appears to only want to maintain the current paradigm or to engineer a desired outcome like the now infamous "climate consensus". That is the reason why Irving Langmuir, Nobel Prize-winning chemist created the term "Pathologiocal Science" and there is ample examples today that include the effort placed into failed ideas like Big Bang, Black Holes, String Theory and Darwin's theory of evolution. A cursory examination of the history of academic endeavour will reveal that those who can think differently are often completely ignored and sometimes even persecuted. Human development is not even considered. Hence the talk in certain quarters of "lemmings", "sheeple" and "herd mentality" but it is not restricted to those who are unintelligent/uneducated. Whatever, it is a well known fact that most people feel safe in a crowd (that is what consensus is all about) even when the few thinkers are shouting that the crowd is going over a cliff.

Frustrated by paywalls on scientific papers? Biologist Rosie Redfield has set up a blog site called Science Leaks that provides links to “peer-reviewed scientific papers that been liberated from behind journal-subscription paywalls.”

The idea is to ensure that research, especially research paid for by public funds, is accessible to the public, wrote Redfield, an associate professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She runs a microbiology research lab in the university’s Life Sciences Centre.

Missing Black Holes Cause Trouble for String Theory

The results continue to pour out of the Large Hadron Collider’s first production run. This week, the folks behind the CMS, or compact muon solenoid, detector have announced the submission of a paper to Physics Letters that describes a test of some forms of string theory. If this form of the theory were right, the LHC should have been able to produce small black holes that would instantly decay (and not, as some had feared, devour the Earth). But a look at the data obtained by CMS shows that a signature of the black holes’ decay is notably absent. [...]

Contrary to some reports, this result doesn’t mean the death of string theory, only the particular flavor that predicted black holes at these energies. Eliminating some models is a critical process of narrowing down what’s possible, but most theoretical constructs have a range of possible models, and string theory is no different. In fact, it’s entirely possible that the ADD model was generated simply because physicists were looking for something they could possibly test in the LHC.

Comment:
Oh dear! Actually, it seems that some scientists are left with egg on their faces promoting a 'flavour' of string theory that now looks like it has been killed by the lack of observational data. Some of these CERN experiments were supposed to create mini-black holes that some believed was an extremely risky venture and caused ordinary members of the public to be so frightened that the project was threatened with court action and CERN scientists were sent death threats.

It is worth taking the opportunity to point out that some critics have been vociferous in their stance against these hypothetical black holes. One such person is the notorious mathematician Stephen J. Crothers and his website provides details of his personal crusade The Black Hole, the Big Bang, and Modern Physics. It must also be noted that some astronomers from highly respected institutions have left the herd a long time ago and quietly state that Black Holes in space are impossible and have come up with a completely different plasma universe interpretation. So we read:
And the researchers say this raises doubts as to whether other so-called black holes are really that, either. [...]

Instead, the researchers are picturing a body with a definite size, and a surprising property: it gradually crams itself into a smaller space forever, but never achieves a black hole’s infinitely small size. [...] Schild’s group studied a quasar designated Q0957+561, about 9 billion light-years away in the direction of the constellation Ursa Major. A light-year is the distance light travels in a year.

The quasar holds a central compact object weighing the equivalent of 3 to 4 billion Suns. Most scientists would call it a black hole, but Schild said his findings suggest otherwise: surprisingly, it’s magnetic, unlike a black hole. [...] The problem vanishes, Schild and colleagues argue, with the new type of compact object that they propose, called a Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Object, or MECO.

This body, a variant of an object whose existence was first proposed by the Indian physicist Abhas Mitra in the late 1990s, is one that not unlike a black hole, continually shrinks into an ever-smaller space. But it never becomes a black hole. Instead, its shrinkage slows down until it becomes imperceptible, but goes on steadily—so slowly, it could go on for many times the lifetime of the universe. Unlike a black hole, a MECO also has definite size. Moreover, objects sucked in can theoretically go back out, albeit with extreme difficulty.

A MECO, essentially a dense ball of plasma, continually generates magnetic fields through surface currents, explaining the magnetism, Schild said. His team’s research appeared in the July issue of The Astronomical Journal.

It won’t be easy for the MECO theory to gain wide acceptance among scientists, astronomers say, given that black holes have been the accepted scenario since Einstein. But Mitra and a few other theorists claim black holes don’t exist at all—only Eternally Collapsing Objects.

What most people do not realise is that due to the way that science works, it could be completely obvious to many that a theory has been falsified, based on experimental observations, but due to the power of those in charge of the various scientific organisations, nothing can be done until those people make a decision to change the paradigm or these people die and the new leaders change the paradigm. Too many people prefer safety in numbers and refuse to jeopardise their career, which means they are not that interested in the truth, as having an easier life is paramount.

Topologist Predicts New Form of Matter

Back in 1970, a young physicist working in the Soviet Union made a counterintutive prediction. Vitaly Efimov, now at the University of Washington in the US, showed that quantum objects that cannot form into pairs could nevertheless form into triplets.

In 2006, a group in Austria found the first example of such a so-called Efimov state in a cold gas of cesium atoms. That's puzzling. Surely the bonds that hold triplets together are the same as those that bind pairs. Actually, no! It turns out that there is a subtle but important difference that makes these bonds completely different.

Today, Nils Baas at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology makes another startling prediction. He says that the strange, unworldly bonds that allow cesium atoms to stick together in triplets should allow much more complex objects to form too. In fact, he says we're on the verge of discovering a brand new form of matter governed by an entirely new branch of physics. [...]

But here's the thing: the bonds that emerge from the topology of quantum mechanics are entirely unworldly. While ordinary matter, the stuff you rap your knuckles on, is clearly confined to three dimensions, the mathematics of quantum mechanics exists in entirely different set of dimensions. And it's in this space that the Borromean rings form.

The result is a kind of parallel physics, in which the laws governing behaviour in this parallel universe exert an inescapable, ghostly grip on our own universe.

This looks promising, the possible discovery of more rules of the universe, that operate at the quantum 'higher dimensional' levels.

Atomic weights of 10 elements to be altered
The adjustments planned for the Periodic Table of the Elements will more accurately reflect the nature of 10 types of atoms, including carbon, nitrogen and oxygen.

Call it Extreme Makeover: Chemistry Edition.

That imposing, yellowing chart gracing the walls of every science classroom is about to get an update. The adjustments planned for the Periodic Table of the Elements will more accurately reflect the true nature of 10 kinds of atoms — carbon, nitrogen and oxygen among them — that play a key role in such real-world issues as detecting counterfeit food, tracing pollutants in rivers and nailing baseball players sneaking steroids.

The Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights at the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry has decided the time has come to ensure that the figures listed on the official Table of Standard Atomic Weights properly indicate the variability that exists in nature.

I am not a chemist and I am still trying to understand if there is any real significance with the other intriguing news that radiation decay rates are changing, caused by unknown energy from the Sun. This was previously highlighted, but the article below is much more stark.

Video: DOD tries to uncover secret of flying snakes

An unusual breed of Asian snakes can glide long distances in the air, and the Department of Defense is funding research at Virginia Tech to find out why.

As video of the reptiles show, they undulate from side to side, in almost an air-slithering, to create an aerodynamic system. It allows them to travel from the top of the biggest trees in the region (almost 200 feet high) to a spot about 780 feet away from the tree's trunk.

"Basically . . .they become one long wing," said John Socha, the Virginia Tech researcher who has traveled extensively in Asia to study the snakes and to film them.

Comment:
The real question is: why are the Department of Defense funding research on flying snakes? Well, it must be accepted that scientists prefer to categorise and shy away from research that doesn't fit the norm. This reminds me of the opening chapter of The Book of the Damned (1919) by Charles Fort. He stated that because of the way that scientists like to classify data, it means they will ignore anything that is inbetween. He used the example of red and yellow but anything that is orange is a problem. If you are prepared to study the many many examples of scientific heretics, this becomes very obvious and explains why we don't fully understand our world and our universe. As Fort writes:
A PROCESSION of the damned.

By the damned, I mean the excluded.

Carl Jung also realised that this was a major problem too and he wrote:

Since it can be said with little exaggeration that reality consists mainly of exceptions to the rule, which the intellect then reduces to the norm, instead of a brightly colored picture of the real world [this kind of science] gives us a bleak, shallow rationalism that offers stones instead of bread to the emotional and spiritual hungers of the world. The Military have always taken an interest in the scientific oddities and they don't see to follow the same rules as the rest of scientific community. The only conclusion we can come to is that the US military is much more interested in understanding reality, regardless of whether the conclusions are scientifically palatable. It's much more of an engineering mindset, which is, 'how does it work!'

Glowing Jellyfish Cells Can Detect Cancers

Scientists put fluorescent proteins from a common jellyfish into human cancer cells then use a special camera to find them.

A team from the Yorkshire Cancer Research Laboratory at York University has developed the procedure and its leader, Professor Norman Maitland, believes it will revolutionise the way some cancers are diagnosed.

"Cancers deep within the body are difficult to spot at an early stage, and early diagnosis is critical for the successful treatment of any form of cancer," he said.

There is a nice video of these glowing jelly fish and it's a reminder of what is now being seen in the skies on a regular basis. I have been updating my book and it has struck me that scientists now talk about a 'wavicle' – a particle and a wave. Dr. John Archibald Wheeler, 90, professor emeritus of physics at Princeton and the University of Texas describes this wavicle as a ‘great smokey dragon’, because in the quantum state, we can never be certain of where of a particle like an electron exists. The first time I saw a visual of this wavicle, I went into a state of shock and awe, it was amazing to me just how far the science has moved on... What's more, this is a good example of how basic energetic structures are duplicated in the universe up to many orders of magnitude. So, back to the practicalities. Despite the resistance to acknowledging the facts, the evidence points to Earth's atmosphere hosting a cosmic aquarium with some BIG wavicles floating around.

Boffins mount campaign against France's official kilogramme

International boffins are mounting a determined diplomatic push to end the practice of measuring mass by reference to a 130-year-old metal cylinder kept in France, saying that the French ingot is no longer up to the job.

The Consultative Committee for Units, whose chairman is Blighty's Professor I M Mills FRS, and which counts among its members the UK National Physical Laboratory and the US National Institute for Standards and Technology, has recommended that the Système International d'Unités (SI Units system) move to define the unit of mass - the kilogramme - more accurately.

At the moment, the official SI definition of a kilogramme is a mass equal to that of the international prototype kilogramme, a cylinder of platinum and iridium kept inside several nested glass cases in an environmentally monitored vault in France at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures outside Paris. The kilogramme was made in 1879.

Officially, of course, it can't change - it will always mass exactly one kilogramme, by definition. But it is compared from time to time with other exact copies held by other nations, and it is known that in reality slight changes on the order of microgrammes - a billionth of a kilo - do occur.

Comment:
If you have read and understood my book Tuning the Diamonds and my essay The Greatest Transition and other previous related stories about this subject matter, it will not be too difficult to comprend why a weight made of platinum and irridum is now changing, providing more evidence of the massive evolutionary changes taking place on this planet. It's interesting that scientists admit that this weight should not change but in reality it does, just like other science constants that our scientists are now realising are not really constant. This is indeed worrisome as it means that more of the hallowed laws of physics are not a true reflection of reality. Anyway, there have been articles about this for quite a few years. In 2005, scientists were saying that the problem was caused by "chemical reactions with the air," so why is this weight not kept in a vacuum tight container? In reality, everything in our physical dimension is reliant on energy from unseen dimensions as our scientists now admit, but we are currently experiencing a massive flux of interdimensional energies. Curious mathematical law is rife in nature

WHAT do earthquakes, spinning stellar remnants, bright space objects and a host of other natural phenomena have in common? Some of their properties conform to a curious and little known mathematical law, which could now find new uses.

A subject of fascination to mathematicians, Benford's law states that for many sets of numbers, the first or "leading" digit of each number is not random. Instead, there is a 30.1 per cent chance that a number's leading digit is a 1. Progressively higher leading digits get increasingly unlikely, and a number has just a 4.6 per cent chance of beginning with a 9 [...]

That Benford's law pops up in so many natural phenomena won't surprise mathematicians but may shock some scientists. When Sambridge's team presented Benford's law findings at a 2009 geoscience conference, one dubious attendee "thought we were having a laugh", he recalls.

Hmmmm... What is most curious, is a mathematical law that can be applied to some data which reveals some kind of hidden principle behind our reality, yet some scientists are completely unaware of it's existence. That's really bizarre. But what does this mathematical law really represent? Well, it must be a mathmatical law of energy distribution because it can be used to judge human behaviour, so I suspect there is a connection with I Ching too. If you are curious, read around the subject, it's absolutely fascinating... well, if you like numbers that is...

Is the age of scientific discovery ending?
The age of scientific discovery may be nearing its end as the limits of the human mind make further breakthroughs impossible, leading scientists have said.

Experts say the “low hanging fruit” of scientific knowledge, such as the laws of motion and gravity, was attained using simple methods in previous centuries, leaving only increasingly impenetrable problems for modern scientists to solve. Uncharted areas of science are now so complex that even the greatest minds will struggle to advance human understanding of the world, they claim. [...]

Not all experts agree that the sun is setting on the age of scientific discovery. Lord Rees, president of the Royal Society, believes that there are still big questions to be asked about the content of the universe, human genetics and how life began on earth.

“All these things depend on more data and they are also helped a lot by computers,” he told the programme. “But I think there may be some aspects of reality we can’t understand or some questions we can’t pose. “Just as a monkey doesn’t worry about how it evolved whereas we understand Darwinism, there may be a problem which we haven’t been able to conceive.

“So I agree with Russell to the extent that there may be some aspects of reality that are beyond human brains, but maybe computers can help”.

Comment:
It is common knowledge that the scientific community works to maintain the status quo by shutting out people with alternative theories that would be progressive and paradigm shifting. History reveals that in the scientific community, there are always people who are 20, 30, 40, 50 or more years ahead of their peers and it takes a huge effort to break down resistance to change. This means that right now, there is information that is being suppressed that will provide a deeper insight into the true nature of reality and so the inference of this headline and article is completely ridiculous. For example, we do not even understand the basics of electromagnetism and certain physicists cannot get their papers published because the implications would shatter many cherished, but false beliefs about the role of magnetism in ordering our reality. Well, I love hearing what Lord Rees has to say because I am now convinced he is completely aware that we are not alone on this planet. Knowing what I know, it would be ridiculous to believe that someone in his position would be uninformed about the existence of another lifeform on this planet, commonly referred to as 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena'. There is simply too much interesting information available in the public domain combined with other research (that has no doubt been privately funded), for him to be unware and hence why Lord Rees clearly states:
"I think there may be some aspects of reality we can’t understand..."
Maybe soon, someone will ask the the question: what aspects of reality are you talking about?

Scheme to 'pull electricity from the air' sparks debate

Tiny charges gathered directly from humid air could be harnessed to generate electricity, researchers say. Dr Fernando Galembeck told the American Chemical Society meeting in Boston that the technique exploited a little-known atmospheric effect. Tests had shown that metals could be used to gather the charges, he said, opening up a potential energy source in humid climates. However, experts disagree about the mechanism and the scale of the effect.

"The basic idea is that when you have any solid or liquid in a humid environment, you have absorption of water at the surface," Dr Galembeck, from the University of Campinas in Brazil, told BBC News. "The work I'm presenting here shows that metals placed under a wet environment actually become charged."

Comment:
This reminds me of the Tether incident when NASA and the Italian space agency tried to use a tether in space and the thing lit up like a neon light and then snapped when it's capacitance was reached. NASA et al. seemed to forget that as the tether was moving in space, it would attract charged particles – basic physics, but this fact seemed to have gone over the heads of the people who designed the experiment. Btw, as Earth's environment is becoming more charged due to Space Weather, it would seem sensible to investigate ways of harnessing this energy that is all around us, but on a personal level, it is likely to become an issue.

A new source of energy: tapping electricity from the air

Brazilian scientists believe they have found a way of tapping electricity direct from the air - and preventing lightning strikes at the same time. "Our research could pave the way for turning electricity from the atmosphere into an alternative energy source for the future," said study leader Dr Fernando Galembeck of the University of Campinas.

"Just as solar energy could free some households from paying electric bills, this promising new energy source could have a similar effect." Scientists have been unsure about whether an electrical charge is created when water vapor collects on microscopic particles of dust and other material in the air.

Galembeck and his colleagues have simulated this using tiny particles of silica and aluminum phosphate, both common airborne substances, and shown that silica became more negatively charged in the presence of high humidity and aluminum phosphate became more positively charged. "This was clear evidence that water in the atmosphere can accumulate electrical charges and transfer them to other materials it comes into contact with," Galembeck explained. "We are calling this 'hygroelectricity', meaning 'humidity electricity'." In the future, he says, it may be possible to develop collectors, similar to solar cells, to capture hygroelectricity and route it to homes and businesses.

Maybe, these scientists are looking for funding to continue their research. The problem with generating electricity is distribution. We are under threat by Space Weather that can literally knock out national power grids around the world in one major geomagnetic storm and our modern technological societies would be crippled as it would not be possible to replace damaged transformers etc quickly. The strange case of solar flares and radioactive elements

It's a mystery that presented itself unexpectedly: The radioactive decay of some elements sitting quietly in laboratories on Earth seemed to be influenced by activities inside the sun, 93 million miles away. Is this possible? Researchers from Stanford and Purdue University believe it is. But their explanation of how it happens opens the door to yet another mystery. There is even an outside chance that this unexpected effect is brought about by a previously unknown particle emitted by the sun. "That would be truly remarkable," said Peter Sturrock, Stanford professor emeritus of applied physics and an expert on the inner workings of the sun.

Sullivan says the Purdue-Stanford team is proposing that neutrinos are powerfully interacting with matter in a way that has never before been observed. “They’re looking for something with a very much larger effect than the force of neutrinos, but that doesn’t show up any other way,” he says.
At this time of evolutionary change scientists making claims that we are seeing new physics that is changing what was previously believed to be one of the fundamental constants of nature is quite something. The response on the internet chatter sites has been interesting, this is one comment I thought was most interesting. Paraphrased; 'who saw this coming, other than the 'DNA upgraders'.

Rethinking Einstein: The end of space-time

Some researchers have started using it to explain away the twin cosmological mysteries of dark matter and dark energy. Others are finding that black holes might not behave as we thought. If Horava's idea is right, it could forever change our conception of space and time and lead us to a "theory of everything", applicable to all matter and the forces tha act on it.

Hurrah! Even I am excited about this latest development, so maybe cosmology and physics will be able to move out of the spacetime quagmire that has existed for many decades. Scientific American did an article in November 2009 where I commented: "This article is interesting because we are being told that the 'time' component of spacetime can be considered as a variable, so we can compare this to water that can exist in different states like ice and steam. Hence, this new Horava gravity theory uses the mathematics of exotic phase transitions and the outcome so far has been quite successful. From the excitement surrounding this new theory, scientists can now re-think how the universe works, by getting rid of theories that are in consistent, like Big Bang and Dark Matter. This sounds like a promising step forward." My latest thought is: how come nobody thought of this before? The example of pencil lead is good, but water, steam ice as phase transitions of H20 are part of everyday life. I am willing to wager that someone proposed phase transitions for spacetime at least fifty years ago and was ignored.

Large Hadron Collider rival Tevatron 'has found Higgs boson'
Rumours are emerging from the rival to the Large Hadron Collider that the Higgs boson, or so-called "God particle", has been found.

Tommaso Dorigo, a physicist at the University of Padua, has said in his blog that there has been talk coming out of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, that the Higgs has been discovered. The Tevatron, the huge particle accelerator at Fermi - the most powerful in the world after the LHC - is expected to be retired when the CERN accelerator becomes fully operational, but may have struck a final blow before it becomes obsolete.

Comment:
This might be a false alarm induced by the huge rivalry between particle physicists and I would not even be surprised if there was an attempt to defraud the scientific community, if that was possible.

Particle physics: 'Honey, I shrunk the proton'

Scientists lobbed a bombshell into the world of sub-atomic theory on Wednesday by reporting that a primary building block of the visible Universe, the proton, is smaller than previously thought. More precisely, revised measurements shave four percent off the particle's radius, according to a study in Nature that is highlighted on the journal's cover.

That may not seem like much, especially given the proton's infinitesimally tiny size. But if borne out in further experiments, the findings could challenge fundamental precepts of quantum electrodynamics, the theory of how quantum light and matter interact, say its authors. [...]

If confirmed, it would do even more than the multi-billion-dollar giant particle smasher at CERN in Switzerland to test the so-called Standard Model, which sets down the notional list of sub-atomic particles, he said in a commentary. Either the previously accepted measures upon which hundreds of calculations have been based are wrong, or there is a problem with the theory of quantum electrodynamics itself. How Rules of Physics in Quantum World Change When Applied to Classical World

Dartmouth researchers have discovered a potentially important piece of the quantum/classical puzzle -- learning how the rules of physics in the quantum world (think smaller than microscopic) change when applied to the classical world (think every day items, like cars and trees). [...] "We found that the motion of the crystals is not dominated by something classical like thermal motion, but instead by random quantum fluctuations in the number of electrons tunneling through the barrier; the fluctuations were the size of about 10,000 electrons," says Rimberg. "But the macroscopic world in this study also influences the quantum world, in that the vibrations of the crystal caused the electrons to tunnel in big bunches, more or less in sync with the vibrations of the crystal."

One major question in quantum physics deals with the connection between the microscopic and macroscopic worlds. Rimberg explains that scientists know that microscopic objects such as electrons obey the laws of quantum mechanics, while macroscopic objects obey Newton's laws. Researchers are still learning exactly how classical behavior emerges from quantum behavior as systems become larger and larger.

Rimberg says that the difference in size between the classical and quantum parts of thesystem described in this paper is really extreme. "To give a sense of perspective, we could imagine that the 10,000 electrons correspond to something small like a flea. To complete the analogy, the crystal would have to be the size of Mt. Everest. If we imagine the flea jumping on Mt. Everest to make it move, then the resulting vibrations would be on the order of meters."

Comment:
It is a fact that quantum particles demonstrate far more intelligence than atoms and molecules in the gross physical world. One question that a crystallographer cannot answer is: how does a crystal know how to grow? The answer is that it doesn't, this is managed by intelligent quantum particles.

Comment: Quite frankly, the CERN LHC is just a huge scientific white elephant that also poses some risk. The more I study alternative theories, the more I see the elephants. So, where the Higgs at? If it was just the Higgs it wouldn't be so bad, but it's concept after concept after concept that just cannot be right... the theory of black holes and the virtually non-existent "feeble" black hole in the centre of our own galaxy is a good example, another huge embarrassement. Much better to accept that our knowledge of physical reality is necessarily incomplete. This way, science is understood as a human enterprise and the "mind of God" is exorcised once and for all. I now think that the very notion of a final theory is faulty

Ever since the discovery of parity violation in the weak interaction over 50 years ago, experiments in particle physics have shown us that our hopes for perfection are just that - hopes. Symmetries are violated left and right; in nature, unlike in John Keats's famous poem, beauty isn't always truth.

Goodness me! What's happening in the physics world, with people proclaiming that the REAL universe is unknowable and there are limits to what we can achieve! For decades, people have been identifying scalar-like forces that are associated with the electromagnetic force but they have been ignored! They carry information but depending on your alternative theory, within the unseen reality that everyone now agrees is seething with energy, some of this energy cannot be associated with mass ie Einstein's E=mc2 does not apply! However, despite the difficulty, some people claim that they can tap this unseen reality for energy and have experiments and patents to prove it! Quantum wonders: The field that isn't there

So what is going on? The Aharonov-Bohm effect is proof that there is more to electric and magnetic fields than is generally supposed. You can't calculate the size of the effect on a particle by considering just the properties of the electric and magnetic fields where the particle is. You also have to take into account the properties where it isn't.

Casting about for an explanation, physicists decided to take a look at a property of the magnetic field known as the vector potential. For a long time, vector potentials were considered just handy mathematical tools - a shorthand for electrical and magnetic properties that didn't have any real-world significance. As it turns out, they describe something that is very real indeed.

The Aharonov-Bohm effect showed that the vector potential makes an electromagnetic field more than the sum of its parts. Even when a field isn't there, the vector potential still exerts an influence.

This experiment is proof that there is an unseen world that underpins our reality that is capable of transmitting information and energy across time and space. Unfortunately, rightly or wrongly, 'quantum' is becoming a word that helps to sell New Age ideas and makes them more respectable because it 'sounds' scientific. It especially helps those who are very pretentious, feel more justified in their metaphysical beliefs.

To the average person the words “Einstein” and “Relativity” are reflexively synonymous with “complexity,” “unintelligibility,” and the notion that “this has to involve obscure mathematics.”

We all know that Albert Einstein invented Special Relativity (SR) and its extension, General Relativity (GR). But what are they? Are these theories correct? Are they useful? Does it take a physicist or mathematician to understand them? Typically, any search of your local library or the Internet for a clear explanation of what Relativity Theory is all about usually falls quickly into a tangle of concepts such as Minkowsky space, time dilation, and other hypotheses – all impenetrable for the uninitiated. Or at least they have been up to now.

THE LIFE, WORK, AND INFLUENCE OF CHARLES FORT

There is a man, largely undiscovered by the modern world, whom I, and many others, believe made one of the most significant contributions to the world of science. Had it not been that he vehemently opposed modern scientists and their methods, his work might be enjoying a greater popularity than it does. Had this man decided to write about completely different topics, he would be hailed as a fabulous literary character.

Here was a peculiar fellow. Charles Fort devoted 26 years of his life to compiling documented reports of scientific anomalies from journals and newspapers from all around the world. He lived in dire poverty so that truth could prevail. His life's work may one day be of great scientific worth, should the established scientific community ever muster the courage to approach it.

When I read Charles Fort's Book of the Damned(1919), I was totally amazed but thrilled to find an extremely advanced human being that could think outside the box and integrate information to help redefine our reality. Yes, he suffered depression and that's because it's extremely difficult to live in this world when most people are not on your wavelength. Psychologist Clare Graves believed in the 1950s-1970s that only 1 in 10,000 people was at this level and I believe in Charles Fort's day it was probably a much lower rate than that. Fort was noted for his wit, this is a good example quoted here:
Published in 1923, New Lands is a continuation of the Book of the Damned, with heavy emphasis on astronomy. In it he openly attacks the pomposity of astronomers, who "are led by a cloud of rubbish by day and a pillar of bosh by night."

But just like East Coast and West Coast rappers have their rivalry, so, too, does CERN and Fermilab, home of the Tevatron -- the particle accelerator where many of the major particles were discovered in the 20th century, including the top quark.

Quite frankly, as much as I like science, I don't find particle accelerators exciting. Odds Are, It's Wrong: Science fails to face the shortcomings of statistics

For better or for worse, science has long been married to mathematics. Generally it has been for the better. Especially since the days of Galileo and Newton, math has nurtured science. Rigorous mathematical methods have secured science’s fidelity to fact and conferred a timeless reliability to its findings.

During the past century, though, a mutant form of math has deflected science’s heart from the modes of calculation that had long served so faithfully. Science was seduced by statistics, the math rooted in the same principles that guarantee profits for Las Vegas casinos. Supposedly, the proper use of statistics makes relying on scientific results a safe bet. But in practice, widespread misuse of statistical methods makes science more like a crapshoot.

It’s science’s dirtiest secret: The “scientific method” of testing hypotheses by statistical analysis stands on a flimsy foundation.

Statistical tests are supposed to guide scientists in judging whether an experimental result reflects some real effect or is merely a random fluke, but the standard methods mix mutually inconsistent philosophies and offer no meaningful basis for making such decisions. Even when performed correctly, statistical tests are widely misunderstood and frequently misinterpreted. As a result, countless conclusions in the scientific literature are erroneous, and tests of medical dangers or treatments are often contradictory and confusing.

I will have to say that this is something of great interest to me from my days at university where as an undergraduate studying Physics for two years and then majoring in Geophysics, we were told how to interpret data. I remember being completely shocked being told that I could ignore a certain percentage of results that did not fit a straight line correlation. My immediate thought was: WHY would the anomalous data points be wrong, maybe they are telling us something? Quite frankly, at that point I realised that there was something very wrong with how science interpretes data. What's more, I will give you an example of how statistics can be completely useless.

Not that long ago, pharmaceutical companies only tested new drugs on men because women and their hormones complicated their testing procedures. This means that whatever "proof" of efficacy was generated, it was completely useless for half the population, however this was and is still not seen as being a problem. Go figure! "Until 1993, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations excluded "women of childbearing age" from participating in clinical trial phases for new drugs, which meant that pharmaceutical companies often only tested on men [source: Toomey]. As a result, many painkiller formulations and dosages were developed based on the male body's pain response."

Google search for more information, drug "only tested on men" However, if you do this google search, the small number of results still imply that most drug testing is still being carried out on men and I really can't understand why women think this is OK, I think it's barbaric.

For One Tiny Instant, Physicists May Have Broken a Law of Nature

[...] Parity was long thought to be a fundamental law of nature. It essentially states that the universe is neither right- nor left-handed — that the laws of physics remain unchanged when expressed in inverted coordinates. In the early 1950s it was found that the so-called weak force, which is responsible for nuclear radioactivity, breaks the parity law. However, the strong force, which holds together subatomic particles, was thought to adhere to the law of parity, at least under normal circumstances.

Now this law appears to have been broken by a team of about a dozen particle physicists, including Jack Sandweiss, Yale's Donner Professor of Physics. Since 2000, Sandweiss has been smashing the nuclei of gold atoms together as part of the STAR experiment at RHIC, a 2.4-mile-circumference particle accelerator, to study the law of parity under the resulting extreme conditions.

The team created something called a quark-gluon plasma — a kind of "soup" that results when energies reach high enough levels to break up protons and neutrons into their constituent quarks and gluons, the fundamental building blocks of matter. Theorists believe this kind of quark-gluon plasma, which has a temperature of four trillion degrees Celsius, existed just after the Big Bang, when the universe was only a microsecond old. The plasma "bubble" created in the collisions at RHIC lasted for a mere millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second, yet the team hopes to use it to learn more about how structure in the universe — from black holes to galaxies — may have formed out of the soup. [..]

Sandweiss and the team — which includes Yale physics research scientists Evan Finch, Alexei Chikanian and Richard Majka — found that quarks of a like sign moved together: Up quarks moved along the magnetic field lines, while down quarks traveled against them. That the quarks could tell the difference in directions suggested to the researchers that symmetry had been broken. The results were so unexpected that Sandweiss and his colleagues waited more than a year to publish them, spending that time searching for an alternative explanation.

Comment:
Since scientists don't understand magnetism and a few physicists with alternative ideas are completely shunned because the implications of new theory would jeopardise the current physics paradigm related to electromagnetism, means this result is NO surprise.

Woman tries to shut down Large Hadron Collider over apocalypse fears
A German woman has failed in a bid to force her country's government to halt experiments at the world's largest atom smasher which she feared would lead to the Earth's destruction.

The country's highest court said that the woman — whom it didn't identify — had failed to demonstrate any connection between experiments at the CERN collider outside Geneva and the apocalypse.

The Federal Constitutional Court in the western Germany city of Karlsruhe threw out the woman's appeal because she was "unable to give a coherent account of how her fears would come about."

"The overwhelming scientific opinion is that the experiments carried out at CERN (the European Organisation for Nuclear Research) present no dangers," the court ruled.

CERN scientists are looking to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to mimic the conditions that followed the Big Bang and help explain the origins of the universe.

Comment:
People have been very frightened and scientists have received death threats but it does not help when they have talk about creating tiny black holes and then tell people that they would be harmless and just pass straight through Earth, (see previous entries). At the moment, I am sick of people with no idea of the science, trying to blame all the planetary weirdness on the LHC and HAARP. It's like these science projects have become bogeymen in the collective psyche, this woman does has done no study or analysis and is being led by pure fear. The LHC is mostly under France but overlaps into Switzerland, see map, er this is a country that also banks huge amounts of the world's gold, I think the authorities would be watching this venture with more than a little interest in their own self-preservation.

Brown Physicist Discovers Odd, Fluctuating Magnetic Waves

Brown University physicist Vesna Mitrovic and colleagues at Brown and in France have discovered magnetic waves that fluctuate when exposed to certain conditions in a superconducting material. The discovery may help scientists understand more fully the relationship between magnetism and superconductivity at the quantum level. Results are published in Physical Review Letters.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — At the quantum level, the forces of magnetism and superconductivity exist in an uneasy relationship. Superconducting materials repel a magnetic field, so to create a superconducting current, the magnetic forces must be strong enough to overcome the natural repulsion and penetrate the body of the superconductor. But there's a limit: Apply too much magnetic force, and the superconductor’s capability is destroyed.

This relationship is pretty well known. But why it is so remains mysterious. Now physicists at Brown University have documented for the first time a quantum-level phenomenon that occurs to electrons subjected to magnetism in a superconducting material.

Comment:
Since space scientists are investigating superconducting magnets to generate magnetic fields to protect astronauts in spacecraft in the highly radioactive environment of space and the human energy field is capable of attracting superconducting particles of light that occurs in the process of spiritual evolution, and in effect creates a cosmic shield amongst other benefits of an enhanced energy field, this research is of great interest. Yes, the science is complex but the universe is not limited by human intellectual constraints.

In Brookhaven Collider, Scientists Briefly Break a Law of Nature

Physicists said Monday that they had whacked a tiny region of space with enough energy to briefly distort the laws of physics, providing the first laboratory demonstration of the kind of process that scientists suspect has shaped cosmic history. [...]

The departure from normal physics manifested itself in the apparent ability of the briefly freed quarks to tell right from left. That breaks one of the fundamental laws of nature, known as parity, which requires that the laws of physics remain unchanged if we view nature in a mirror. [...]

Dr. Vigdor said: “A lot of physics sounds like science fiction. There is a lot of speculation on what happened in the early universe. The amazing thing is that we have this chance to test any of this.”

Hmmm... Sometimes I marvel at scientists trying to tell the Universe how it should behave and when it fails to obey a fundamental law of our science how they react. This is hardcore plasma physics but since plasma represents 99.999% of the visible Universe and a quark gluon plasma is predicted to have been the essence of what existed immediately after the hypothetical Big Bang, it is important to know what is going on in the science, especially when we consider that there are many many mysteries associated with this primoridial spiritual energy. Well, as engineer, astrophysicist and plasma physicist Hannes Alfvén stated in his 1970 Nobel Prize speech, "In the beginning was the plasma". Despite what we don't know, many spiritual and metaphysical concepts can be seen in a new light when we study plasmas and some new insights gained.

We Got Rhythm: The Nearly Forgotten Anomalies of Frank Brown

...Many of these critters seemed naturally to have a cycle relating to the Moon, very expected in a way, since they were tidal creatures. Brown, particularly after he was hired as a young prof at Northwestern, had the lab and where-with-all to begin detailed work. He chose species like Fiddler Crabs and Oysters. He studied them both in the "field" and isolated in tanks at the University. He found many things relating to rhythms, but I'll mention only two.

Less interesting, perhaps, to us "outsiders", he found that creatures like the crabs appeared to have a "clock" which was significantly regulated by "outside" influences [i.e. not just a "hard-wired" internal cellular clock--which is what the establishment believed]. This, astonishingly, bought him not just disagreement but a shameful volley of insults and "professional" dirty tricks.

The second thing that he found was that creatures displaced from their native environment "re-set their cyclical clocks" even if placed in lab environments where they were shielded from all gross environmental "natural" inputs. Those two discoveries are, of course, closely related in Frank Brown's Big Picture, but the second was mostly ignored because it stretched any sort of thinking past most of our limits---but the first thing was viciously opposed as a pseudoscientific concept. [Brown is shown on the left at one of his study tanks at Northwestern].

"Scientific" persons began doing things like blocking his publications, slurring him in talks and even in writing, creating cabals to agree to never cite any of his work nor that of his students,mounting erroneous "statistical" arguments to show his alleged errors of data, refusing to invite him to speak at relevant symposia, or if they had to, offering him ten minutes to his opponents' 50 or 100 minute talks [I kid you not--read this disgusting crap in Brown's biographical chapter in Discovery Processes in Modern Biology, edited by W.R.Klemm. 1977].

Brown eventually "won", although he wasn't trying to "fight" anyone--Frank Brown is a civilized man. But his deeper discoveries are not spoken of much today, at least one of them. This is the fact learned from the oyster research that even if you keep them isolated in the lab, they not only re-set their "tidal" clocks, but they re-set them as if they somehow "know" that they been moved from the East Coast to Chicago--- that is: their new rhythm is the correct rhythm if they were sitting in a tidal situation in Chicago.

More suppressed research.... Here we have some research that clearly reveals that biological rhythms in sea-life exist with an interdimensional component. In the laboratory when sea-life like oysters and crabs are isolated, they are still able to re-set their biological clocks to an influence that is not gravitational, electromagnetic or light. Here we have science that seems to imply that the theory of morphogenetic fields can be substantiated, but scientists literally frothed at the mouth when it was revealed that biological creatures are influenced by outside forces, because it implies that humans are influenced in the same way too. Now decades later, scientists have admitted this and now Epigenetics, how the environment influences genes and DNA is now one of the top scientific research areas. It seems that the truth always prevails — eventually.

Can Horrava gravity claim the same success? The first tentative answers coming in say “yes.” Francisco Lobo, now at the University of Lisbon, and his colleagues have found a good match with the movement of planets.

Others have made even bolder claims for Horava gravity, especially when it comes to explaining cosmic conundrums such as the singularity of the big bang, where the laws of physics break down. If Horava gravity is true, argues cosmologist Robert Brandenberger of McGill University in a paper published in the August Physical Review D, then the universe didn’t bang—it bounced. “A universe filled with matter will contract down to a small—but finite—size and then bounce out again, giving us the expanding cosmos we see today,” he says. Brandenberger’s calculations show that ripples produced by the bounce match those already detected by satellites measuring the cosmic microwave background, and he is now looking for signatures that could distinguish the bounce from the big bang scenario.

Horava gravity may also create the “illusion of dark matter,” says cosmologist Shinji Mukohyama of Tokyo University.

This article is interesting because we are being told that the 'time' component of spacetime can be considered as a variable, so we can compare this to water that can exist in different states like ice and steam. Hence,this new Horava gravity theory uses the mathematics of exotic phase transitions and the outcome so far has been quite successful. From the excitement surrounding this new theory, scientists can now re-think how the universe works, by getting rid of theories that are in consistent, like Big Bang and Dark Matter. This sounds like a promising step forward.

New method of sterilising equipment - with a plasma bag

The practice of sterilising surgical tools and devices has helped radically improve healthcare. Researchers in the Netherlands are trying a new method, using plasma to kill bacteria inside sealed containers. But the old mainstay is a 130-year-old device called an autoclave, which is something like a pressure steamer.

Its advantage is that the unsterile tools can be packed into sealed containers and then processed, staying sealed and sterile after they are removed. Norbert Koster and his colleagues at TNO Science and Industry, an independent research organisation in the Netherlands, are developing a new way to sterilise medical devices.

By sealing them inside plastic bags and then using electromagnetic fields to create plasmas -- partially ionised gasses that contain free electrons and reactive ions.

I LOVE learning about the properties of plasma! Incredibly, very few know that 99.999% of the visible universe is made up of this divine primordial intelligent energy, this is the glue that keeps the universe held together. This is a quote from plasma physicist Dr Louis Frank:

Large Hadron Collider broken by bread dropped by passing bird
The Large Hadron Collider’s woes have taken a faintly comic turn after the huge particle accelerator got broken by a piece of bread dropped by a passing bird.

The 27-kilometer (16.8 mile) LHC suffered serious overheating in several sections after the small piece of baguette landed in a piece of equipment on the surface above the accelerator ring.

Dr Mike Lamont, the LHC’s Machine Coordinator, said that a “a bit of baguette”, believed to have been dropped by a bird, caused the superconducting magnets to heat up from 1.9 Kelvin (-271.1C) to around 8 Kelvin (-265C), near the mark where they stop superconducting.

A failure like this, known as a “quench”, can be expected at around 9.6 Kelvin, CERN engineer Dr Tadeusz Kurtyka told The Register. [...]

The succession of technical problems the LHC has suffered has led some physicists, apparently in all seriousness, to claim that it is being sabotaged by time-travelling particles from its own future.

The NYT headline is not very informative, but the following short synopsis explains the gist of a theory that provides an extraordinary explanation for the run of bad luck surrounding this project. Is The Large Hadron Collider Being Sabotaged from the Future? Quite frankly, I really don't think this kind of discussion is very sensible, especially as scientists at CERN received death threats when the experiments were set to go ahead before, as it seems a few people were absolutely terrified of what might happen.

'Masters of light' win Nobel Physics Prize

Nice to see people being appreciated for their intelligence, rather than usual celebration of the lowest common denominator.

Nobel prize for chromosome find

This year's Nobel prize for medicine goes to three US-based researchers who discovered how the body protects the chromosomes housing vital genetic code. Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider and Jack Szostak jointly share the award. Their work revealed how the chromosomes can be copied and has helped further our understanding on human ageing, cancer and stem cells. The answer lies at the ends of the chromosomes - the telomeres - and in an enzyme that forms them - telomerase.

Comment:
This particular discovery should be of great interest to healers and those who are interested in working with universal energies. As I wrote in my article Healer Science It has been long established that healers are linking up to the Earth's Schumann Resonance which acts as a carrier wave for higher dimensional frequencies of light. The effect being that those energies immediately act to effect enzymes either increasing or descreasing activity, dependent on what is required for greater health and that is why there are legitimate claims for rejuvenation. I think someone now needs to design an experiemnt to see what happens to a test tube of the telomerase enzyme when healers are channelling, but I know the answer already.

'Hidden Portal' Concept Described: First Tunable Electromagnetic Gateway

While the researchers can't promise delivery to a parallel universe or a school for wizards, books like Pullman's Dark Materials and JK Rowling's Harry Potter are steps closer to reality now that researchers in China have created the first tunable electromagnetic gateway.

The work is a further advance in the study of metamaterials, published in New Journal of Physics (co-owned by the Institute of Physics and German Physical Society). In the research paper, the researchers from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Fudan University in Shanghai describe the concept of a "a gateway that can block electromagnetic waves but that allows the passage of other entities" like a "'hidden portal' as mentioned in fictions."

Well, the exact quote here "a gateway that can block electromagnetic waves but that allows the passage of other entities" is very interesting and know doubt this is the discovery of another secret of the universe, probably utilised by intelligent "magnetic entities".

Scientists Claim New State of Matter Created

Scientists claim to have created a form of aluminum that's nearly transparent to extreme ultraviolet radiation and which is a new state of matter. It's an idea straight out of science fiction, featured in the movie "Star Trek IV." The work is detailed in the journal Nature Physics. [...]

"What is particularly remarkable about our experiment is that we have turned ordinary aluminum into this exotic new material in a single step by using this very powerful laser," Wark said. "For a brief period the sample looks and behaves in every way like a new form of matter. In certain respects, the way it reacts is as though we had changed every aluminum atom into silicon: it’s almost as surprising as finding that you can turn lead into gold with light."

Comment:
Isn't this what spiritual alchemy is all about? The description of a crystalline plasma state is also that of some of our higher energy bodies. Due to various channelled messages I have come across and my awareness that our planet is losing it's shielding to space weather, those humans who are prepared are going to evolve quickly as the bombardment of light intensifies and apparently the human race will gradually become more transparent.

Is Everything Made of Mini Black Holes?

"In 1971 physicist Stephen Hawking suggested that there might be “mini” black holes all around us that were created by the Big Bang. The violence of the rapid expansion following the beginning of the Universe could have squeezed concentrations of matter to form miniscule black holes, so small they can’t even be seen in a regular microscope. But what if these mini black holes were everywhere, and in fact, what if they make up the fabric of the universe?"

Comment:
I think the language used here of "mini-black holes" is unfortunate and maybe a better description should be interdimensional wormholes but as we know scientists are still very obsessed with the concept of 'black holes'. In my book, I compared the 50 year old Aether lattice Theory developed by the distinguished and British Dr Harold Aspen with the metaphysical concept of The Cosmic Lattice. There is also a link with research associated with Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) and new states of matter. Scientists have discovered that in cold gases (plasmas) or when atoms in the gas get cold enough, they spontaneously spin up into what might be described as quantum mechanical twisters or hurricanes. This is all very relevant as scientists are now modelling the aether as a superfluid. Thus, the latest shock in Big Bang cosmology is that when scientists tried to recreate the promordial (quark-gluon) plasma, d pro,, the before experiments show that the fANG Na, so this research helps us to understand the nature of 'cold' plasmas and the 'The Cosmic Lattice', where 'holes' or 'hurricanes' in the aether follow geometric patterns and exist at the microscopic and macroscopic levels. In this regard, there is also the work of Russian scientists who have discovered that DNA can generate magnetized wormholes and therefore attract information from outside of space and time. As the article states, these black holes or wormholes come in all sizes and may account for the beliefs associated with Shamanism and some of the very strange images taken in space by the NASA/ESA SOHO spacecraft whilst monitoring the Sun. Theoretically, cosmic string traverses the universe and are also described as 'celestial superhighways', Whilst mathematicians are only calculating 'routes', it is possible that the plasma phenomenon of hollow 'tubes' of cosmic string, can be seen by digital technology under certain conditions.

In Search of the Black Swans

"This is how discovery works: returns on research investment do not arrive steadily and predictably, but erratically and unpredictably, in a manner akin to intellectual earthquakes. Indeed, this idea seems to be more than merely qualitative.

Data on human innovation, whether in basic science or technology or business, show that developments emerge from an erratic process with wild unpredictability.

For example, as physicist Didier Sornette of the ETH in Zurich and colleagues showed a few years ago, the statistics describing the gross revenues of Hollywood movies over the past 20 years does not follow normal statistics but a power-law curve - closely resembling the famous Gutenberg - Richter law for earthquakes - with a long tail for high-revenue films. A similar pattern describes the financial returns on new drugs produced by the bio-tech industry, on royalties on patents granted to universities, or stock-market returns from hi-tech start-ups.

What we know of processes with power-law dynamics is that the largest events are hugely disproportionate in their consequences. In the metaphor of Nassim Nicholas Taleb's 2007 best seller The Black Swan, it is not the normal events, the mundane and expected "white swans" that matter the most, but the outliers, the completely unexpected "black swans"."

I love the concept of "Black Swans" and I am thrilled to see this article. The evolution of consciousness means "the old ways" are losing their efficacy and new more evolved ways was to do business are required.

Can fractals make sense of the quantum world?

"Quantum theory just seems too weird to believe. Particles can be in more than one place at a time. They don't exist until you measure them. Spookier still, they can even stay in touch when they are separated by great distances. Einstein thought this was all a bit much, believing it to be evidence of major problems with the theory, as many critics still suspect today.

Quantum enthusiasts point to the theory's extraordinary success in explaining the behaviour of atoms, electrons and other quantum systems. They insist we have to accept the theory as it is, however strange it may seem. But what if there were a way to reconcile these two opposing views, by showing how quantum theory might emerge from a deeper level of non-weird physics?

If you listen to physicist Tim Palmer, it begins to sound plausible. What has been missing, he argues, are some key ideas from an area of science that most quantum physicists have ignored: the science of fractals, those intricate patterns found in everything from fractured surfaces to oceanic flows (see What is a fractal? ). Other physicists seem inspired by the novelty of Palmer's approach. "What makes this really interesting is that it gets away from the usual debates over multiple universes and hidden variables and so on," says Bob Coecke, a physicist at the University of Oxford. "It suggests there might be an underlying physical geometry that physics has just missed, which is radical and very positive." Coecke points out that very few scientists working on fundamental physics have explored how fractals might be incorporated into the theory, even though they are commonplace in other parts of physics.

Comment:
The fractal nature of the universe is a basic understanding in metaphysics; as above, so below. By the way, I'm hearing that people in the UK are starting to see the triangular faces that belong to the diamonds in the diamond light grid, when they look into the aura of people who have had that particular layer of light activated, seriously good news!

Quantum weirdness: What we call 'reality' is just a state of mind

"A lifetime studying quantum mechanics has convinced Bernard d'Espagnat that the world we perceive is merely a shadow of the ultimate reality I believe that some of our most engrained notions about space and causality should be reconsidered. Anyone who takes quantum mechanics seriously will have reached the same conclusion.

What quantum mechanics tells us, I believe, is surprising to say the least. It tells us that the basic components of objects - the particles, electrons, quarks etc. - cannot be thought of as "self-existent". The reality that they, and hence all objects, are components of is merely "empirical reality".

Comment:
I just find the language used to describe our reality as defined by quantum mechanics and cited by intellectual New Agers just a little too pretentious. Isn't it just easier to say that everything in this reality is derived from higher dimensional space? Yes, I wrote about this in my book and used the jargon but hopefully tried to make the case using other scientific perspectives.

Mathematics: The only true universal language

This was intimated in 1970 by the mathematician John Conway who invented the "game of life". Conway wanted to devise a game that would start with a simple pattern and use basic rules to evolve it again and again. He began experimenting with the black and white tiles on a Go board and discovered that by adjusting the simple rules of his game, which determine when a tile turns from black to white and vice versa, and the starting patterns, some arrangements produce incredibly complex results seemingly from nowhere. Some patterns can emerge that appear to have a life of their own as they move round the board."

Comment:
Long article and I found all the talk about what aliens would think just plain off-putting. Whatever, there is some discussion of the multiverse and I found the above paragraph very interesting. The idea of polarities represented by black/white, on/off, top/down, negative/positive, male/female is fundamental to understanding the interaction of energy.

The new vision states that the universe we live in did not emerge from an infinitely small particle with a similarly infinite mass (the dreadful singularity all scientists have been trying to avoid). Instead, the authors claim that another (possibly similar) universe existed before.

The laws of physics to which singularity abides are still elusive, but theoretical aspects suggest that it is highly likely that Planck-scale densities are impossible. So, Martin Bojowald, an assistant professor of physics at Pennsylvania State University, and Abhay Ashtekar, Eberly professor of physics and director of the Institute for Gravitational Physics and Geometry at the same institution, have devised a model where the universe is the result of another kind of Big Bang, called a Big Bounce.

Yes, many cosmologists have realised that the mathematics and theory to support Big Bang Theory is impossible. Some have deducted this from the observation of quasars and plasma physicists know this for sure from laboratory experiments, hence some have already produced far more realistic theories. Whatever, the name 'The Big Bounce' is rather catchy, I suppose it designed to go down well at an elementary level....

Has new physics been found at the ageing Tevatron?

Last week, physicists announced that the Tevatron particle accelerator at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, has produced particles that they are unable to explain. Could it be a sign of new physics?"

I actually find this quite amusing, because when scientists originally started to discover lots of new sub-atomic particles, some started to suspect that the consciousness of the researchers was actually involved with the experiment, interacting with and creating these new particles. Thus, it seems ironic that just when this Fermilab Collider is being shut down, new particles just appear......

Why the atom smasher went bang

"A poor soldering job on one of 10,000 connections is the most likely cause of the failure that sidelined the world's largest atom smasher days after the start of the new collider, a senior scientist said.

"It is very probable that there was a connection that wasn't good," said Lyn Evans, project leader of the new Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the European Nuclear Research Organisation. Mr Evans said the source of the problem was small.

"It happens quite often in electrical connections," he said, adding that he thought the fault resulted from human error on one electrical connection.

Just to add to the chaos..... This is taken from www.junkscience.com and is repeated here because experts are warning that a poorly thought out environmental directive will be cause electronics and electrical circuits to fail in the future;

"The particularly damaging aspect of this new law which, to give it its full name, is Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, is the ban on the use of lead in electronic equipment, thus prohibiting the use of lead-based solder."

Also quoted by John Brignell: "A classic example was the ban on lead in solder. It was completely unjustified by available evidence yet imposed virtually without serious thought. Leadless solder is not only considerably more expensive, it is unreliable, being subject to dry joints and cracks. We are talking about people being killed here, for there are now many applications of electronics on which human lives depend, let alone livelihoods. Notably, military applications were excluded."

Why nature can't be reduced to mathematical laws

"ONE of the grand aims of science is to explain every aspect of nature in terms of simple, fundamental laws - but is this possible? A team of physicists claims to have found a hint that some things simply cannot be computed, and that nature could be more than the sum of its parts.

The idea of reductionism, a key tool in science for centuries, holds that everything in nature can ultimately be understood by gaining knowledge of its constituent parts. The laws of fluid flows, for example, can be derived from the deeper laws of atomic and molecular motion, which in turn follow from quantum physics. In 1972, physicist Philip Anderson pointed out that there could be a problem with this approach. Anderson suggested that some systems may be more than the sum of their parts.

He championed "emergence" - the notion that important kinds of organisation might emerge" Subscription only:" - the notion that important kinds of organisation might emerge in systems of many interacting parts, but not follow in any way from the properties of those parts. If so, then even perfect knowledge of the physics at one level would be inadequate for understanding organisation at higher levels. This conjecture has been debated ever since."

"We were able to find a number of properties that were simply decoupled from the fundamental interactions," says Gu. Even some really simple properties of the model, such as the fraction of atoms oriented in one direction, cannot be computed. This result, says Gu, shows that some of the models scientists use to simulate physical systems may actually have properties that cannot be linked to the behaviour of their parts (www.arxiv.org/abs/0809.0151). This, in turn, may help explain why our description of nature operates at many levels, rather than working from just one. "A 'theory of everything' might not explain all natural phenomena," says Gu. "Real understanding may require further experiments and intuition at every level."

Comment:
Here scientists are admitting the failure of "reductionism" and that "unknown" properties influence the behaviour of individual parts. Depending on which scientists you talk to, some have evidence of an "unseen" world that they can substantiate with sound theoretical explanations. Most importantly, when scientists try to model living systems, including the Earth's biosphere, they certainly don't have all the parameters to make sound predictions.

Large Hadron Collider must hibernate after wrong sort of big bang

Do fly-by anomalies reveal new physics at work?
New Scientist, 23rd September 2008
Subscription only exerpts: "The findings may call into question our understanding of gravity. Could these anomalies yield the first tangible connection between quantum mechanics and relativity, a link that theorists would dearly love to find? Or is there some mysterious, unseen body of matter tugging at our spacecraft? Whatever the answer, these anomalies may compel us to re-examine the forces at work in space."

"One extraordinary suggestion for the origin of the anomaly has come from theorist Stephen Adler of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. In an as-yet-unpublished paper, he suggests that the fly-by anomalies are caused by the drag the spacecraft experiences from a cloud of invisible dark matter clumped around the Earth (www.arxiv.org/abs/0805.2895). The clump cannot extend as far as the moon or we would have seen its effect on the moon's orbital motion, and it cannot come too close to the Earth or it would have affected the orbits of artificial satellites.

Admittedly, Adler's model appears contrived: his dark matter cloud needs two components orbiting differently in order to explain why some spacecraft increase in speed and others reduce. Even more seriously, it would require a density of dark matter much higher than most astronomers believe is even possible. These very significant constraints notwithstanding, such clumped dark matter would be compatible with an experiment in Gran Sasso, Italy, called DAMA, which is designed to detect the presence of dark matter. The DAMA team claims to show a larger-than-expected amount of dark matter impacting on the Earth, though their result, too, is controversial."

"Theorist Karl Svozil at the Vienna University of Technology in Austria has even proposed a laboratory experiment to test the effect. Instead of a rotating planet, he suggests using a massive, spinning stack of magnetic discs to mimic Earth's mass and magnetic field. To imitate the spacecraft, he proposes firing a beam of neutral particles past the stack and measuring its trajectory. According to the known laws of physics, the beam should be unaffected. If it is knocked off course, then new physics is at play. "In principle, the experiment could look for a gravitational and an electromagnetic origin of the fly-by anomaly," says Svozil."

Comment:
According to Russian scientific studies if you spin a magnet then torsion fields (subtle energy fields) come into play. As stated in my book, Albert Einstein showed mathematically the existence of a close connection between gravitation and the curvature of space-time and at the same time Elie Cartan was the first to point to the possibility of the existence of fields generated by the spin angular momentum density. These ideas became known as Einstein-Cartan theory or ECT in 1913. In 1991, Gennady Shipov showed that the violation of Newton's Laws by gyroscopic systems was caused by the appearance of torsion fields generated by spinning mass. These fields were calculated to be 30 orders of magnitude less than gravitation and so were dismissed by Einstein as irrelevant, but it seems that when it comes to space probe planetary fly-bys, it's enough to be noticed. Still, I can't understand why these scientists are struggling, because it is KNOWN physics identified by experiment and by 1996 there were over 10,000 papers in existence.

A Knot of Light

"Imagine twisting a beam of light into a knot, as if it were a piece of a string. Now grab another light beam and tie it around the first, forming its own loop. Tie on another and another, until all of space is filled up with loops of light. Sounds preposterous, but a pair of physicists has shown that light can do just this — at least in theory. Visible light, along with all other forms of electromagnetic radiation, is governed by Maxwell’s equations, and the researchers have found a new solution to these equations in which light forms linked knots."

Comment:
I disagree this is new science, as other scientists have found alternative solutions to Maxwell's equations and their work has been ignored. Whatever, this suggests that scientists have a theoretical solution for "magnetic entities", independent light entities made up of plasma.

Large Hadron Collider to be turned off for two months following damage

"A faulty connection between two magnets has triggered a meltdown which will delay the world’s biggest science experiment by two months, the Cern laboratory has admitted. The fire brigade was called to the Large Hadron Collider after the fault, which sent temperatures soaring by 100 degrees celsius in a section of the 17-mile underground circuit on the Swiss-French border."

Comment:
I am sure many CERN scientists are very disappointed but opponents will be sighing from relief.

Superconductivity Can Induce Magnetism
Science Daily, 15th September 2008
"In the experiment reported in Science, the scientists cooled a single crystal of CeCoIn5, a metal compound consisting of cerium, cobalt and indium, to a temperature of minus 273.1 degrees, close to absolute zero. To their great surprise, they discovered that magnetism and superconductivity coexist and disappear at the same time when they heat the sample or increase the magnetic field. This discovery is extraordinary, since magnetic order exists exclusively when this sample is in the superconducting state. In this unique case, magnetism and superconductivity do not compete with each other. Instead, superconductivity generates magnetic order."

Comment:
The theory surrounding superconductivity and magnetism is complex and this discovery only serves to provide some additional insight. However, from my understanding of the metaphysical implications, humans have the ability to attract particles of light that have superconducting properties. When these build up to a certain level, then a fully fledged Meissner field will be established which then acts as a shield only allowing 'beneficial' frequencies of light that will enable our DNA to code efficiently. I have suggested particles because that is what I have seen when working to help build up people's energy fields, see Tuning the Diamonds: Electromagnetism & Spiritual Evolution for more details. Whatever, this article suggests that the superconductivity of certain elements also induces magnetic order which again can be related to the concept of "Signal Power" explained in my book.

Hackers claim there's a black hole in the atom smashers' computer network

"Hackers have broken into one of the computer networks of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A group calling itself the Greek Security Team left a rogue webpage describing the technicians responsible for computer security at the giant atom smasher as "schoolkids" — but reassuring scientists that they did not want to disrupt the experiment. The hackers gained access to a website open to other scientists on Wednesday as the LHC passed its first test, sending its protons off on their dizzying journey through time and space, close to the speed of light."

Comment:
This is starting to seem like a circus, as we read, "Many countries will send their heads of state or government to the event: President Sarkozy of France, President Couchepin of Switzerland and President Köhler of Germany have the date in their diaries, and either President Medvedev of Russia or Vladimir Putin may attend. The British Prime Minister, however, has apparently decided to skip the opportunity to be publicly associated with black holes."

Scientists get death threats over Large Hadron Collider

It's interesting that people are so fearful that they are taking matters into their own hands and trying to stop these scientists. If something does go wrong we just have to hope it will be localised, and that it's only the egos of these scientists that are bruised. More interestingly, I can't believe I missed the YouTube Large Hadron Rap, it's got over a million hits too! I note that some have complained that it "cheapens the science and dumbs it down". Personally, I am amazed that someone has successfully made this particle science even vaguely interesting...

If The Large Hadron Collider Produced A Microscopic Black Hole, It Probably Wouldn't Matter

Particle colliders creating black holes that could devour the Earth. Sounds like a great Hollywood script. But, according to UC Santa Barbara Physics Professor Steve Giddings, it's pure fiction.

Giddings has co-authored a paper documenting his study of the safety of microscopic black holes that might possibly be produced by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is nearing completion in Europe. The paper, co-authored by Michelangelo Mangano of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), which is building the world's largest particle collider, investigates hypothesized behavior of tiny black holes that might be created by high-energy collisions in the CERN particle accelerator.

If they appear at all, these black holes would exist for "about a nano-nano-nanosecond," Giddings said, adding that they would have no effect of consequence.

Comment:
Well, scientists want to play Russian roulette, so we will find out soon, won't we.....

Doomsday under debate

Well, we have the latest on the latest scientific madness. It seems from the comments, many are not impressed and cite the long history of governments who have placed scientific curiousity before human interests. I had to admit I did have a good laugh reading some of the comments....

Comment:
I ignored this article originally, because I find the whole CERN particle accelerator experiments mind-bogglingly boring. However, now there are acusations made that the experiments have managed to destabilise Earth's orbit and that various world disasters have been caused, so I have been thinking.... The thoughts that come to mind are rather strange....what if top scientists are deliberately trying to make major "adjustments", it wouldn't be the first time that highly risky experiments with the Earth have been tried. Whatever, some people are so concerned they have decided to sue, see Black hole lawsuit.

How Rocket Engines Can Be Destroyed By Mysterious Sound Waves

A decade ago, after rigorous analyses, anomalies were seen with the identical Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft as they hurtled out of the solar system. Both seemed to experience a tiny but unexplained constant acceleration toward the sun."

"Baffled", "perplexed", "stunned", "surprised", "shocked", "amazed" etc. Yes, many scientists do not understand all the forces that operate in our universe, NASA have to use tables of known trajectories to get space probes out of our solar system, because the "established" laws of physics do not work.... So why are most scientists so enamoured by falsified theories....who knows.....

Magnetic atoms of gold, silver and copper have been obtained

Major news for spiritual alchemists! An international team led by Physics and Chemistry teams from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and directed by Professor Jose Javier Saiz Garitaonandia, has achieved, by means of a controlled chemical process, that atoms of gold, silver and copper - intrinsically non-magnetic (not attracted to a magnet) - become magnetic. The article has been published in the February issue of the prestigious international magazine in nanotechnology, Nanoletters (Vol.8, No. 2, 661-667 (2008)).

According to the research, in which researchers from the UPV/EHU as well as teams from Australia and Japan have taken part, the magnetism appears reduce the dimensions of the material to nanometric dimensions and surround it with previously selected organic molecules. The magnetism of these nanoparticles is a permanent one (like iron) which, even at ambient temperature, is quite significant. This amazing behaviour has been obtained not just with gold (a phenomenon which had already been put forward as experimentally possible) but, in this research, nanoparticles of silver and copper (the atoms of which are intrinsically non-magnetic) with a size of 2 nm (0.000002 mm) have also been shown to be magnetic at ambient temperature.

The contribution of this work, part of the PhD of Ms Eider Goikolea Núñez and led by Professors Mr Jose Javier Saiz Garitaonandia and Ms Maite Insausti Peña, is not limited to obtaining these amazing magnetic nanoparticles. In fact, by means of complex techniques, using experimental systems based on particle accelerators and nuclear techniques, both in Japan and in Australia, have clearly shown for the first time that magnetism exists in atoms of gold, silver and copper, metals which, in any other condition, are intrinsically non-magnetic (a magnet does not attract them).

This discovery goes beyond the mere fact of converting non-magnetic elements to magnetic ones. These properties appear in smaller-sized particles that have never been seen in classical magnetic elements. In fact, they can be considered as the smallest magnets ever obtained. Moreover, such properties do not occur only at low temperatures but they are conserved, apparently without any degradation, at temperatures well above the ambient ones.

This work poses new questions as regards what have been the accepted up to now as the physical mechanisms associated with magnetism and opens the doors to interesting applications yet to be discovered, some of which are related to the use of magnetic nanoparticles for the diagnosis/treatment of illnesses. Likewise, this article is destined to be a point of no return for research into fundamental questions about magnetism.

Gold, silver and copper are all "Ormus elements". I have seen golden particles attracted to my hand whilst conducting energy balancing sessions, so the scientific validation for all energy practitioners is very important.

US Experiment Takes The Lead In The Competitive Race To Find Dark Matter

The Dark Side of Light

"Recently, researchers from the University of Glasgow and the University of Bristol in the UK have discovered another unusual property of light – or, more accurately, the darkness within light. As the researchers explain, natural light fields are threaded by lines of darkness, which create optical vortices that appear as black points within the light. The group has modeled this phenomenon, and found that the lines of darkness exhibit fractal properties with Brownian (random) characteristics. Further, the characteristics of these optical vortices suggest universal properties, which could help connect different areas of physics.

...Interestingly, the researchers noted that these properties of optical vortices (the ratio of vortex lines to loops and their scale invariance) are very similar to the properties of cosmic strings, according to the cosmic string lattice model.
The model describes the configuration of cosmic strings in the early universe – the very thin but very dense one-dimensional defects in space-time that could be responsible for the formation of galaxies. The researchers don’t think this similarity is likely to be coincidental. They suggest that these properties could be universal for all optical fields, and they plan to investigate the analogy further."

Sometimes, I wonder about scientists who really don't seem to know very much. We are told by the US military that teleportation by yogis is REAL and there is a wealth of factual information to support this view.

How Crystal Becomes a Conductor

"Squeeze a crystal of manganese oxide hard enough, and it changes from an electrical insulator to a conductive metal. In a report published online this week by the journal Nature Materials, researchers use computational modeling to show why this happens.

The results represent an advance in computer modeling of these materials and could shed light on the behavior of similar minerals deep in the Earth, said Warren Pickett, professor of physics at UC Davis and an author on the study."

Nice, straight forward article. Now imagine that those particles are just whirlwinds of interdimensional and hyperdimensional plasma, and then imagine that these intelligent particles occasionally re-arrange themselves based on universal cycles, then finally consider that you are made up of these intelligent particles and can choose to incorporate the most intelligent and intuitive particles that can existence. Next, ask yourself the question, what is the Holy Spirit?

Comment:Well this article gives the science, but I am much more interested in the practical application of human interaction with New Energy. Planet Earth is being blasted with New Energy, multi-dimensional plasma (ionised particles - the building blocks of life). A sound way to turn heat into electricity

Comment:
This article has prompted me to link this with recent discoveries that the Sun works via magnetism, sound and geometry. Now if you could reverse this process: electricty -> sound -> heat, it would explain how the Sun works and fit observational data. We must remember that the most advanced forecasting techniques to predict the behaviour of the Sun is called Helioseismology, and it is based on measuring reverberating sound.
